Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 13, 2026

This policy explains what data the Memøries app ("Memøries", "we", "us") and the website share-memories.app collect, why, on what legal basis, and how you can control it. Memøries is a photo-organizing app for Android. Most of what the app does — browsing your gallery, AI categorization of photos and videos, face grouping, reading text and QR codes in photos for search, editing — happens entirely on your device and never leaves it. The sections below cover the parts that do involve a server.

Who is responsible

The controller under the GDPR is Nicolai Osmundsen, Malerhaugveien 38, 0663 Oslo, Norway. Contact: contact@share-memories.app. See also our legal notice (Impressum).

Data we collect

DataWhyWhen
Email address Create and sign in to your account; send sign-up confirmations and one-time sign-in codes When you create an account (email/password, email code or Google Sign-In)
Photos and videos Cloud backup, so you can recover them and share albums Only for photos you mark as favorites, albums you turn backup on for, and albums you share — never your whole library by default. When you are signed in, backup of favorites is on by default; you can turn it off in the Favorites album
Photos added to a shared album by others So everyone with access to the album sees them When someone with upload permission adds photos on the album page. Their first name or initials are shown next to their photos
Comments in shared albums (text, your first name, time) So the people in a shared album can talk about the photos together Visible to everyone who can see that album. You can delete your own comments; the album owner can delete any comment in their album. Deleted when the comment, the shared album or your account is deleted
Likes on photos in shared albums Show how many people like a photo, and tell the person who added it Who liked which photo. Visible as a count to everyone who can see the album. Removed when you unlike, or when the photo, the album or your account is deleted
Reports and blocks Keep shared albums safe: you can report a photo, comment or album, and block a person A report stores the reason, your optional note and a copy of the reported comment text or a reference to the photo, and is reviewed by us. A block is stored so their content stays hidden from you; the blocked person is not told. Deleted with your account
Sensitive-content check of photos in shared albums Show possibly sensitive photos blurred to everyone in the album Done on the device of someone viewing the album, with the same on-device recognition as your own photos. Only the result (sensitive yes/no) is stored with the shared photo — the photo is not sent anywhere for this
Search terms that gave no results See what people look for that search can't find yet, and add words and synonyms for it Sent anonymously — no account, device or other link to you — and only after you stop typing. Never text containing an e-mail address or long numbers, and names of people in your own face groups are removed first. Stored as a count per search term
Location (from photo EXIF data) Group photos by trip or place in the app Read from photos already on your device and processed on the device
Advertising ID, IP address (approximate location), ad interactions and ad consent choices Show ads to free-tier users, including optional rewarded videos that unlock features Only on the free tier, and in the EEA/UK only according to the choice you make in the consent dialog
Subscription status Know which storage plan you're on Handled by Google Play Billing — we receive your entitlement (e.g. "Pro"), never your card details
Referral code Credit you with bonus storage when a friend you invited signs up Only if you use the invite-a-friend feature
Name and profile picture Shown to your friends in the app and to people you share an album with, so they know who it is from Taken from your Google account when you sign in with Google; otherwise the first part of your email address
Friends list Lets you share albums with people in one tap Created when someone opens your invite link or a shared album while signed in, signs up with your code, or accepts an album you shared. You can remove a friend at any time
Push notification token Notify you when someone shares an album with you, adds photos to a shared album or comments in one When you are signed in and have allowed notifications. Removed when you sign out
Crash reports Find and fix bugs When the app crashes or hits an error: device model, OS version, app version, your account ID, the screens and taps leading up to the error, and technical details. No photos, no email address
A single photo you choose to edit AI object removal and background clean-up Only when you start one of these edits on a photo. The photo is processed and the result returned; it is not kept for any other purpose

Legal bases

What we don't do

Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers (processors) to run the app. Each only receives what it needs to do its job:

None of these providers may use your data for their own purposes beyond providing the service to us. Some of them are based in the United States. Transfers outside the EEA are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep data

Your choices and rights

Children

Memøries is not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. The app can group photos that show children on your device; this happens only on the device.

Security

Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS). Access to your data in our database is restricted using row-level security tied to your account. Images on shared-album pages are only served with a signed link for albums that are still shared.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be noted in the app.
